Before your treatment

Full body massage works best on muscles that have been warmed so heat treatments prior to massage are often advisable. This can be in the form of sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi or simply a warm bath or shower. Please note that sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi are not recommended if you suffer from high blood pressure, epilepsy or are pregnant – for your safety you must adhere to regulations and guidelines as supplied by proprietors of such facilities.

Avoid eating heavily before any treatment as some clients may experience nausea during or after treatment on a full stomach.

Avoid consumption of alcohol prior to all treatments as you may feel light-headed. Alcohol is a toxin which the body is striving to eliminate during massage so your treatment will be ineffective if you drink alcohol beforehand.

If you are a smoker, refrain from smoking directly before treatment – especially before Indian Head massage. Your last cigarette should be at least one hour before your treatment. Refrain from smoking for at least one hour following your treatment as you may feel nauseous or light headed.

All jewellery should be removed before treatments to allow for both energy flow and to protect jewellery from oils. It is best to leave jewellery at home, but if you do bring it, it will be kept on the trolley beside you during your treatment.

Each client is asked to complete a health screening and lifestyle questionnaire. This information is kept strictly private and will not be shared with any other party. For insurance purposes we must have your name, address, and contact details for your doctor as well as a signed declaration that you do not suffer from contraindicated illnesses before commencing the treatment. If you have a health problem and you are unsure of whether you may receive treatment please do not hesitate to ask. Often people are required to get letters to clear them for treatment from their GP. This is not unusual and is for your health and wellbeing.

The lifestyle/stresses questionnaire is optional but is recommended as it will help your therapist to identify how to most benefit you and also will determine the kind of aftercare recommended at the end of the session.

After your treatment

Some clients feel slight cold-like symptoms – runny nose, headache etc, or may experience light-headedness. Contra actions may also include increased urination, bowel movements, increased energy. This is quite normal and is the body ridding itself of toxins that have been released from cells during your treatment. This should pass within 12 hours.

Increase water intake for the rest of the day to help flush out toxins from your body

Avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours as it is introducing toxins that your body is actively trying to flush out.

Avoid eating a heavy meal after your treatment as you may feel nauseous – something light like a salad or fruit is ideal.

Avoid strenuous exercise after your treatment – instead a gentle walk to help you revitalize is a good idea.

Try to rest as much as possible for the remainder of the day.
